Frequently Asked Questions

Homely learns the dynamics of a building, specifically the time it takes your home to heat up and cool down. Depending on the operating mode selected, Homely uses this in combination with weather forecasts and tariff prices to select the cheaper times to heat your home and hot water.
-
Standard mode works like a traditional thermostat. You tell it when to come on, when to switch off and what temperature you’d like your home to be. Standard mode is there for those who want it but you’ll be missing out with regards to efficiencies and potential savings.
-
Smart mode is where Homely starts flexing its capability muscles. Homely will learn about your home and how long it takes to warm up and cool down. Homely has another trick up its virtual sleeve – it checks the local weather forecast and factors that in to its schedule. That means you get the home temperature you want, when you want it. You’ll probably notice that your heat pump is running more often, perhaps when you weren’t expecting and that your radiators are never hotter more than lukewarm. That’s Homely maximizing the efficiency of the heat pump. Just sit back and relax.
-
Homely works great in Smart mode. But it really comes into its own when switched to Smart+ mode:
- Smart+ mode optimises your heat pump to work on smart variable tariffs, such as Agile Octopus.
- Variable tariffs do what they say on the tin – you pay variable rates depending on the time of day.
- Smart+ mode works in partnership with you. It understands your heating needs, pulls down all the tariff data each day and then formulates a heating schedule to ensure you get the temperatures you want, when you want them. It’s really smart. That’s why we called it Smart+.
- Want to try it out? Every Homely comes with 12 months access to Smart+ included as standard. After that there is an annual fee of £25.* That’s less than a cost of coffee a month.
- When used optimally, Smart+ can deliver savings of up to 30% compared with fixed tariffs.
*This fee is correct on the issue date of March 2021.
-
Homely currently supports:
- Agile Octopus
- Economy 7
- Octopus Go / Go Faster
We are adding new smart tariffs to the list as they launch. Email us at homely@evergreenenergy.co.uk (please use “Tariff request” as the subject line) if there is a tariff that you would like to be added.
-
The equipment that Homely requires varies by heat pump manufacturer. The cost of the base kit is £200. One temperature node is included. Any additional temperature nodes can be purchased for £25. If you’d like to find out more, visit the product page.
-
There are no ongoing costs if you choose to run your Homely in either Standard or Smart mode. If you want to take advantage of the benefits of Smart+ mode then there is an annual charge of £25. However, every Homely comes with 12 months access to Smart+ included, so you can try it at no risk.

We aim to fulfil orders within 3-4 working days. However, temporary Covid-19 restrictions may lead to longer delivery times of up to 7 working days. We are working to minimise any disruption.

The temperature node provides important information such as room temperature and humidity. The temperature node communicates wirelessly to the Hub at regular intervals throughout the day.
-
The temperature node should be placed in the room that you most frequently use. The node should be placed away from direct sunlight, air flow, for example a frequently opened window, and any device that can generate heat, such as an oven or a large TV.

-
Homely comes, as standard, with a one year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. This is extended to two years if it was installed by an approved Homely installer. Full details can be found in our Terms & Conditions.
-
Yes. Homely installation varies depending on which heat pump is installed. Typically installation requires several wire connections into the indoor unit of the heat pump and temperature sensors attached to the flow pipe, return pipe and hot water tank. It is recommended that a professional installer or electrician completes the installation.
-
This depends on the type of tariff you are on – Smart is best for fixed tariffs, Smart+ for smart tariffs. The Getting the Most From guides explain how each mode works and how they could impact your bills. The guides can found here: Smart+, Standard and Smart (TBA).
-
We advise customers to avoid multiple zone heating with a heat pump, primarily due to the inefficiencies caused through such operation. Homely does offer a maximum of two zones for customers that wish to do so. If you have extra zones, you may see the benefit of grouping zones together so that they function as no more than two.
-
It is possible for Homely to operate more than one heat pump, however, this is dependent on how the heat pumps are connected. Please contact us to discuss further.
-
To pair the first node, hold the right button for 5 seconds and then click the node button three times. To pair the second node, hold the right hand button for 12 seconds and click the second node button three times. Guidance is available in the installation manual.
-
Temperature nodes should typically reconnect themselves. If that hasn’t occurred, try clicking the button once next to the Hub. If this doesn’t fix it a full re-pairing may be needed. To fully re-pair the first node, hold the Hub’s right button down for 5 seconds and then the temperature node for 12 seconds. For the second node, hold down the Hub’s right button for 12 seconds and the temperature node for 12 seconds. Your app should now display readings to confirm your node has successfully reconnected.
-
Homely needs daily updates that come from an internet connection.
-
For best operation of Smart and Smart+ mode, you should select only the heating periods that you require. For example, if you require heating from 18:00 to 22:00, you should only input this time and the required temperature. Homely will calculate the periods that the heat pump will operate and will automatically save energy when not required.

The Homely vision is to be the beating heart of the smart home. That means integrating heating, solar energy, battery and EV. We plan to introduce these features, apart from EV, during 2021.
-
Homely best operates with full control of the system, free from possible interference from third party equipment. We would recommend that third party thermostats are either disabled or uninstalled prior to the Homely installation. Your Homely installer may be able to assist with this.
-
Yes, Homely is compatible with Nibe Uplink. To get set up, you first need to subscribe to both Nibe Uplink’s “Manage” and Homely’s Smart+ service. The system does not require the hardware purchase as Homely can fully integrate with the Nibe Uplink system. However, the standard hardware still operates effectively with Nibe heat pumps so you can decide which you prefer.
-
No, Homely is not currently compatible with Nibe MyUplink.
