You asked, we listened - say hello our new Usage feature
If you’ve opened the Homely app recently, you might have spotted something new at the bottom of your screen. That’s Usage – and it’s what you’ve been waiting for.
For a while now, one of the most common things we’ve heard from Homely homeowners is that they want more visibility into how their heat pump is actually performing. You’ve made the switch, you’re doing the right thing – but beyond a comfortable home, it can be hard to know what’s really going on under the bonnet. That’s exactly what this new feature is here to help with.
So, what's in it?
Before we built Usage, we went back to basics and asked you what you actually wanted to see. We put a range of data points in front of real Homely homeowners and asked them to rank what mattered most. What you’re seeing in Usage today is the result of that research – the measures that rose to the top.
Heating & hot water
You can see how much energy your heat pump has used to heat your home and your hot water, along with what that’s cost you. Broken out separately, so you can see where your energy is actually going.
Total energy
A combined view of your overall energy usage and cost – handy for getting the full picture at a glance.
Impact
Here’s where it gets really interesting. You’ll see your carbon savings (a reflection of the environmental difference your heat pump is making) alongside your heat pump’s efficiency, which tells you how hard your system is working to turn electricity into heat.
One thing worth knowing: all of the figures in Usage are estimates, based on data reported by your heat pump. They’re a helpful guide to how your system is performing, but not an exact science – some values may vary by up to 15%.
Why now?
Honestly? Because you asked. Visibility into heat pump performance is something homeowners have wanted for a long time, and we felt it was important to start giving you that – even if we’re not quite where we want to be yet. Usage is a beta feature, which means we’re still refining it, and your feedback will genuinely shape where it goes next.
What's coming next?
Usage is just the start. We know that for some of you, a high-level overview won’t be enough – you want to get into the detail. We’re working on a way to bring more detailed data to Homely users, and while we’re still working out exactly how that will look, it’s something we’re fully committed to. Watch this space.
