  • Low and slow works best: running your heat pump at a steady, moderate temperature often uses less energy overall than cranking it up only when you feel cold.
  • Open radiator valves fully: many people turn valves down in summer and forget them. Partially closed valves can reduce heat flow, meaning some rooms stay cool and your heat pump must work harder.
  • If your radiators aren’t piping hot, don’t worry:  that’s normal for heat pumps. Homely will still help ensure your home feels comfortably warm.
  • Defrost cycles are normal: if it’s frosty outside, your heat pump may run a defrost cycle, using a little warmth to keep your heat pump ice-free and working efficiently.
